Irritable bowel syndrome, also known as IBS or spastic colon, is a functional bowel disorder characterized by chronic abdominal discomfort, bloating and irregular bowel habits. Routine clinical tests may show no abnormalities despite the chronic pain experienced. Some people may also classify their condition as celiac disease. Sufferers will know the plethora of symptoms associated with IBS. These include anything from indigestion, heartburn, bloating, excess gas, diarrhoea, constipation and food intolerances. |
Much is made of food intolerances and the trial of restrictive diets in the treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. It is true that in general as organisms we are becoming more sensitive to certain products that no longer are digested well such as wheat and dairy. However, as sufferers of Irritable Bowel Syndrome will know, whilst removing certain dietary foods may give reduce the severity of symptoms, they will not usually remove symptoms completely. This will only be a temporary plaster for the wound.
Many doctors now look upon Irritable Bowel Syndrome as ‘stress related’. This is definately 'getting warmer' on the scale of understanding the real cause. Whilst many people are focused on the symptoms and eradicating the symptoms, with for example diet or medication, until the real cause is identified, people may continue to experience symptoms.
And whilst certain foods may aggravate the condition, the reality is often that the guts were already out of balance and inflamed before the food was ingested, and it just so happens that that particular food further aggravates the already over-sensitive gut.
Hence it is necessary to identify why the guts are over-sensitive in the first place. Bearing in mind that the body is designed to be a self-healing mechanism, and that symptoms are merely it's way of telling you that something is out of balance, the solution is to find out what is happening, or has happened, in your life to 'inflame your guts' and 'get you irritable'.
In your first Mickel Therapy session, a detailed case history will be taken so that you can understand what it is that has led your body to become out of balance, and you will be guided into what you need to do in order to restore that balance so harmony (homeostasis) can be restored.
Since Irritable Bowel Syndrome’s symptoms are similar to those present in Chronic fatigue Syndrome, M.E and Fibromyalgia, Mickel Therapy has effectively had the chance to apply its process to the condition of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. The results have been very exciting and Mickel Therapy feels it can offer a non-medication process to help with the disabling condition of Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
